The Tolerance Center received the UNESCO award

On November 16 the UNESCO headquarters in Paris held an award ceremony for recipients of the award for promoting ideals of peace and non-violence. Nada al-Nashif, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Social and Human Sciences, gave an honorary diploma to Alexander Boroda, Director-General of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center.

"The Mandajeet Singh award for promoting tolerance and non-violence is a perfect example that we are heading in the right direction. Our cooperation with UNESCO was a good start, and we are not going to stop there and will only move forward. And, of course, the best result of our work will be a modern society, the key principles of which will be tolerance and mutual respect. "

Alexander Boroda, Director-General of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center.

The award, named after the artist, writer, diplomat and Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO - Madanjeet Singh, is awarded every two years.

This year the international jury consisting of representatives of UNESCO Member States, unanimously chose the Russian Center for its research and educational programmes aimed at promoting dialogue between different religious faiths, including youth outreach programmes.

The high award was presented as part of the celebration of the International Day of Tolerance on November 16. A special Week of Tolerance programme is dedicated to this date in Moscow. It is unique in concept, process and the involvement of the youth in a social dialogue about the culture of different countries. The Madanjeet Award is a testimony of the high evaluation of the Center's activities by the International Professional Community.

"The Tolerance Center is our partner in implementing a state national policy. It is very important to us, that there are private organizations in Russia dealing with such crucial themes for both the government and the society, as tolerance and building an intercultural dialogue. The UNESCO award is a high assessment and international recognition of the staff competence and quality of the Tolerance Center's programmes. We congratulate our colleagues and wish them further success and are proud of the fact that the UNESCO Prize was awarded to an organization from Russia."

Igor Barinov, head of the Federal Agency for Nationality Affairs

A joint publication of the Tolerance Center and UNESCO on international migration, tolerance and dialogue of cultures is planned by the end of 2016. The publication, available in all UN languages, will include academic articles of the world's leading experts in the field of social and human sciences, as well as the methodologies of the Tolerance Center.

The Center’s psychological and pedagogical methods and programmes are aimed at strengthening Russian civic consciousness among young people, broadcasting a culture of peace and cooperation, building a positive dialogue between people of different cultures, religions and mindsets.

The Center's activities are addressed to educational organizations and teachers of the Russian Federation.
