One of the founders of ethno-sociology in Russian sociological science. She initiated the development of theory and methods for studying the personal level of interethnic relations, the structure of ethnic identity in ethno-sociological studies, the types of post-communist nationalism in the context of modern Russia; introduced the problem of state-civil and ethnic identity which is now in research.

Head of the Multicultural Relations Research Center, Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Author of more than 250 works - books and articles on the theory and methodology of ethno-sociology, sociology of interethnic and multicultural relations, ethnonational self-awareness, social aspects of intercultural interaction.
